Pixar

Toy Story was Pixar's first feature film. It was also the first fully computer-animated feature film (and CGI miracle). Decades later, as Pixar continues to rule children's pop culture and the box office, we have to wonder: way back when computers were first invented, the era when they were the size of mini mansions…did someone ever slap the side of one and say “one day this bad boy will make moving pictures that sell toys?”

Of course, it's reductive to say Pixar movies are just for children, or only for selling toys. A big reason for their success is how they tug at the emotion strings in the jaded brains of adults. The films are beautiful, painting pictures of rich, full worlds where gay kissing makes you squeamish. Okay seriously, are we still talking about Pixar? Come on, we're the adults watching these movies. Sure, they awaken our inner child, but it's not like we can shrug these implications off. Ugh, stupid life experience. If you'll excuse us, we're going to go watch Coco and have a good cry.
